Task 4 - How Did You Use Media Technologies in the Construction and Research, Planning and Evaluation Stages?

Pre Production:

In A2 I used a variety of different media technology's during the post production stage in order prepare me for the production stage of the music video.

For example I used the internet in the research and planning stage in order to research different artists work to establish conventions of different music genres and to give us some ideas about what to include in our music video, I also used the internet to research different target audiences to enable us to create a successful star image for our artist to the best of our ability. For example we looked on different artists websites such as the kooks and the Arctic monkeys in order to enable us to recognise conventions of bands in the rock/ indie genre. Throughout the research and planning stage we used the search engine Google to research ideas of our song Mardy Bum. Google also allowed us to listen our song on sound cloud.

In the pre production planning process we created an animatic storyboard using a Varity of digital technologies. We began by using a SonyNX300 camera to film each storyboard clip for 5 seconds, then we uploaded these clips on to the editing software final cut pro where we uploaded the song and cut the footage over the song  in order to give us a realistic representation of  what our final music video will look like in order to enable us to be more creative during the decision making process.

In the pre production process  I also used online software's such as Prezi and PowerPoint to present my ideas, for example I used power point to present my ideas about what costumes the actors should wear in the narrative as well as Prezi to present the cd digipacks of different artists of a similar indie rock genre to wonderland in order to help me understand conventions of album covers and maximise my creativity and come to a better understanding about what I want to include in wonderlands CD digipack.

Post production:

We also used digital technologies in the Post production stage in order to help us produce and develop our coursework.

For example we used the online software program Photoshop to help us to cut and develop a CD digipack and from this we learnt how to use some of the complex the tools which Photoshop contains such as overlay and saturation to help us create a near industry standard product, it also helped us to re-establish the star image of the band (through overlaying an image of the world, to reinforce our concept) whilst maximising our creativity.

We also used the internet in the post production stage to enable us to create a website for the artist, we went onto wix.com, which is a site which allows you to design your own website, this allowed us to be creative in our decisions of what images to include allowing us to establish our star image creating an effective marketing campaign.

Overall digital technologies have had a major imapact in recent years as both institutions and us as the consumers have greater accessibility to creativity, as well as allowing target auiences to engage with products. The internet is a vital component to our coursework and due to the fact that it is free, accessable and reliable, we are able to use the internet as the main tool to produce our coursework  The internet has also result in there being a rise in prosumerism whereby consumers have such accesses to these digital technologies that they are able to play the producers and produce their own products to near industry standard products Digital Technologies has made our campaign easier to share and transfer acting a media platform, allowing users to upload anywhere and any time allowing them to be more creative with a wider range of tools available.

Youtube Statistics

Here is the youtube statistics that we received about our music video
620 people viewed our video, this suggests it had a reasonable level of appeal, with a steady acceleration of viewers each time.

This graph suggests that the majority of people viewed the video on youtube, and as we initially releaced the video onto youtube, this is the figures we would expect. It also suggests that the majority of the audience were of a young age, as generally youtube videos are mostly watched by younger people.

The graph above shows and the amount of veiws the music video had in each country with the avarage viewer duration time. The fact that our video was viewed in over 4 countries outside of the UK suggests that it was viewed between members of the public, not by people related to the school, as well as suggesting it had international appeal. In over 7 countries the average person viewed our video for over 2minutes suggesting people had a sustained interest throughout.

the data suggests that generally the majority of people have viewed the video on both mobiles, tablets and computers however there was a peak use of people watching the videos on computer in mid december, indicating that possibly more people watch youtube videos over the christmas break.

Audience feedback Survey

We produced a survey for audiences to rate our music video, through the program Survey Monkey. Survey monkey is a free and easy to use website which allows you to make and customise surveys to suit the product. It then allows you to email the survey directly to members of our target audience, which they can send back, helping us to establish the successes and failures of the product.

We came up with the following questions to put on our survey:

Q1 What is your favourite genre of music

Q2 Do you think Wonderland's image is similar to other artists of the indie-rock genre?

Q3 Do you think the CD digipak is realistic and professional looking?

Q4 Would the CD digipak grab your attention either in an online store or in physical form

Q5 Do you think the website is effective in creating the overall star image of the band?

Q6 How easy was it to use the website?

Q7 Is there anything that was unclear in the video or that you would have changed?

Q8 On a scale of one to ten, how successful do you think the whole campaign would be in the real world?

Q9  What did you derive from the dolls house concept?

Q10 Is there anything you think we could've done more effectively to promote the star image of the band throughout our whole campaign?

Task 3 - Prezi What have you learned from your audience feedback?

For our task 3 evaluation, we have to use the software "Prezi".  I watched youtube tutorials on how to use the program on the prezi website.

TASK 1: IN WHAT WAYS DO YOUR MEDIA PRODUCTS USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMES AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCT

TASK 1: IN WHAT WAYS DO YOUR MEDIA PRODUCTS USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMES AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

CONVENTIONS

What is a convention in media?

A convention is  or a way of doing something or an element which is expected to occur. In media, the majority of products are created in established and repeated ways, these aspects are conventional. Similarly if you go against and challenge the usual convention, it is seen as being unconventional. For example the conventions of a music video are a band performance with lip synching, close up camera shots and a narrative.
